Summary

A city in southeastern Turkey where Sinior and three other Jewish conscripts were required to report for military service. They reached it after travelling through Shoshnemirk, Van and Garzan. In segment 05.02 it is the setting for Sinior and his companions’ service at the military hospital, where his relationships with Dr Edip Osman and Rahmi Bey develop. In segment 05.03 it is the setting for Sinior’s work as the camp tailor, his relationship with the hospital commander’s family, and his account of the city’s water shortage. In segment 05.05 Sinior recalls intervening for Pinhas after an officer brutally beat and imprisoned him.
